The history of Basic Sciences Faculty

One of the main Faculties of Babol Noshirvani University of Technology is Faculty of Basic science which includes three Departments namely; Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. We are a vibrant teaching and research unit in which shared governance is the norm.

Department of Mathematics:

Mathematics department was established in 2007. Our mission encompasses teaching and research in Pure and Applied Mathematics. Our research strengths are in Analysis, Algebra, Graph Theory, Differential Geometry and Topology, Numerical Analysis, Operation Research, and Statistics. We currently have on board thirteen tenured faculty members whose responsibilities typically include both teaching and research.

We offer a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics & applications, and Master’s degrees. We currently have 168 undergraduate students each enrolled in Mathematics & applications, and 55 Master degree students.

Department of Physics:

The Physics Department has 8 faculty members and offers strong programs in research and teaching to the Master level. Experimental and theoretical research areas include neurophysics, condensed matter, gravitational, quantum mechanics and atomic and molecular physics, as well as physics education. We offer Bachelor’s degrees in physics of engineering, and Master degrees in Optics, Plasma physics and Elementary particle physics.

Department of Chemistry:

Chemistry department was established in 2011 and students could apply for advanced programs in analytical and organic chemistry from 2012. The department offers courses and programs at all levels; from beginners to advanced studies. Also the department of chemistry has access to modern facilities as well as dynamic cooperation with other department and faculties.

The department has seven faculty members including one associate professor, five assistant professors, and one lecturer. The research at the department is grouped into four main fields including analytical, physical, organic, and inorganic chemistry. In fact, the department’s research activities have expanded rapidly in recent years and are focused on green chemistry, electrochemistry, synthesis of organic compounds, physical and quantum chemistry, chemometrics, surface chemistry, polymer chemistry, reaction kinetics, theoretical chemistry, natural products, and material science.
